Global DNA - Part II

To understand how global DNA operates within the species one must focus on the relationship between DNA and the immune system and how that relationship guarantees the integrity of each human being.

One only has to look at what happens to a human body after the immune system goes "offline" at death to understand the importance of its role. But the truth is that the immune system is powerless to act until it gets its instructions from the DNA molecule. The immune system runs on information. Simply put, it acts based on what the DNA tells it reality is, but if the DNA gives it false information then the immune system does not exercise a veto; it simply proceeds as if the information is correct. And this is true of the development of the biological individual as well.

Global DNA functions the same way. It's active ingredient is information. The human race does whatever it believes to be true. Everyone knows how human knowledge has progressed over the years, but hardly pays attention to the way that the state of human knowledge affects what humans are able to accomplish. There was a time when humans believed that the earth was flat. It was reasonable conclusion based on observable fact, even though the earth never has been flat. But humans in that time acted as if it were true and never set sail for fear of falling off the edge. The same is true of our belief that the earth was the center of ther universe. That had a more profound effect on our behavior. Until humans came to accept that the sun was the center of the solar system and the earth revolved around the sun they would never have been able to make sense of the laws that make space travel possible.

Humans act as if other human beings are enemies because this is what the human race now believes. This is different from what we believed about the earth being flat or about the earth being the center of the universe. The first humans did not know the truth about those things. This type of information had to wait until we have the technology to discover that information. Early humans understood that humans were brothers. That knowledge was necessary for the race to thrive. This indicates that there was a point in time when something caused brothers to view each other as enemies, and now that "new" knowledge controls our behavior.

We cannot wait for technology to enable us to discover the truth. We need to determine what changed.

Global DNA.

Before we can identify the things that function as the immune system and DNA for the human race we need to remind ourselves of the roles that the two play within an organism. The immune system is a very complex system and the only one of the body's systems that has no boundaries. Its primary role is to maintain a balanced condition, otherwise known as homeostatis, within the organism. It does this by trying to figure which of the many microorganisms within the body belong to the body, and it destroys or disables any that it identifies as alien. But the immune system does not act on its own. It obtains its instructions from the DNA molecule. When there are flaws in the instructions in the DNA the immune system may misidentify part of the self as being alien and then we have autoimmune diseases where the body attacks itself. Cancer is another result of a flaw in our DNA. In this case cell division goes wild in one or more cells. These cells have begun acting as aliens because they received alien instructions from the body's DNA.

When applied to the human race we immediately find the reason for all our problems. Whenever one human is viewed as an enemy the result is behavior that resembles cancer or an autoimmune disease in the body. The moment the body identifies a foreign agent it attacks it. This is what we observe as war and violence among humans. War and violence are not our problem but indicators of the problem. We fight each other because we view each other as potential enemies. We fight wars because we wish to destroy those we believe are the cause of imbalance in our societies.

Each of us is a part of the immune system. Next time we will take a look at our global DNA.

Help from Organisms

Now that we have had some time to come to terms with the idea that the human species, like every other species, is in truth and fact an organism our next step is to apply all we have learned, especially through medical science, of the ways in which an organism maintains its health in nature.

Health is not a static condition. Organisms are always struggling to maintain their health because they are always under attack from alien forces. Some of you may have heard about homeostasis. Each organism must maintain homeostasis to survive and whenever the body gets out of balance the body immediately moves into action to restore homeostasis. There are a few obvious examples. When the body lacks nutrition we feel the hunger pangs that alert us of the need to eat. When the body’s temperature is to cold shivers result to help to restore the body’s optimal temperature. The most extreme example is seen after death. These reflexes are under the control of the immune system, whose sole responsibility is to maintain the health of the organism.

The immune system defends against the millions of bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites that want to invade the organism. The magnitude of this work is best demonstrated by what happens after an organism dies and the immune system goes off line. Within a few days these bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites overrun the body and reduce it to dust.

The immune system receives its instructions from the DNA molecule in each cell. These instructions enable the immune system to distinguish these pathogens from the organism's own healthy cells and tissues in order to function properly and protect the body. In a few cases mutations in the organism’s DNA result in instructions that cause otherwise healthy cells to so misuse meiosis that they present a threat to the existence of the organism itself, or cause the organism's immune system to misidentify the body's own cells as being alien particles to be attacked and destroyed. The body has no natural defense against these attacks because the instructions come from the body itself. We could cure cancers and autoimmune diseases if we could find a way to reverse these mutations in the body’s DNA. Until such a time, we must continue to resort to invasive and destructive methods of healing.

It is this latter case that represents our present condition. The human race has become a threat to the environment that nurtures it, and through wars and violence we treat our brothers as if they were alien intruders to be attacked and destroyed. We are not being attacked by alien forces. Our only recourse is to continue the futile effort of seeking peace through war or find a way to reverse the instructions coming from our DNA that result in this self-destructive behavior.

Because the human race is an organism we should expect that, as is true of every other species it has an immune system and a set of instructions that determine the parameters of its behavior.

In search of peace

As I was getting ready to write today's blog my mind strayed to the concept of peace. I concluded that "Peace is not just the absence of conflict but the absence of enemies." Consider this for a moment.

We have spent a great deal of our resources in search of peace but that may not be the best way to achieve peace. The problem is that no one knows what peace really ought to look like. If we define peace as the absence of conflict then the only true representation of peace is death, and who needs peace when one is dead. So, instead of seeking a reality that we cannot truly identify it is to our advantage to eradicate the enemy consciousness that forces us to fight and kill each other.

Understanding the Organism

Understanding that each species is an organism is crucial to our ability to correct the developmental problems we all agree exist within the human race.

In terms of their operations there is no difference between organisms and organizations; both are systems. Of course, humans developed organizations on the basis of principles we observed among organisms and other natural systems. But when a problem arises in the way one of these operates it is important to recognize their differences between an organism and an organization.

As I noted earlier, an organization is a synthetic system that is based on the natural systems we find around us. Humans create or manufacture organizations. These are all machines. Humans cannot create organisms. Organisms occur naturally without human creative input. A machine, whether it is a group of humans forming a board of trustees, a sports team, a debate society, or a civic club, or it is a collection of mechanical parts like an automobile, a computer or an electric fan, is created by identifying qualified parts to perform the various functions of a conceptual system. To create this machine we first identify the various roles to be played in this conceptual system then we locate the parts that can most effectively perform those roles. When the machine fails to function as expected these parts can be repaired or replaced individually. The malfunctioning part can be removed from the machine and then replaced.

Living organisms must be taken as they are found because humans lack the ability to infuse life. One cannot create a human being by gathering a collection of "perfect" body parts and putting them together. When the organism fails to function as expected we must take a different approach to restoration. We have to maintain the life of the system while correcting the flaw. Generally, we must work on the part while it is still functioning within the organism. In a few cases medical science is able to transplant organs but this is not the same as changing the fuel pump in an automobile. The immune system instinctively rejects any foreign organism that is introduced.

When an system no longer functions as it should the very first step is to determine whether it is an organism or an organization for this will determine how we should go about restoring it.

At first the human race appears to be the largest human organization. It is not because humans did not create the human race. Like every other species humans occur naturally in the universe. We have generally thought that we can change the human race one individual at a time. As we have seen above, this approach is based on the assumption that the human race is an organization. By the same token, such an approach will never succeed because the procedures that can be used to restore an organization to health usually will not produce sustainable reaults in an organism.
